1) Start by cutting up your banana. You can make the slices as thick as you want. Because I am always trying to portion out snacks for myself and my children, I decided to cut each banana into 5 pieces.

2) Then, set the banana pieces aside and begin the melting the chocolate. I used chocolate wafers that I found at my local Wegman’s grocery store in the bulk foods section, but you can use any type chocolate of your preference. Melt a large handful of the chocolate (approximately 1 cup) in a microwave safe bowl for 45 seconds on high power. Stir the chocolate and placed it back into the microwave again for another 15 seconds (or until the chocolate is thoroughly melted). *Be careful not to over heat the chocolate as it can become lumpy, rather than smooth when stirred and will not coat the bananas properly.

3) Poke each of the banana pieces with a wooden Popsicle stick, or if you don’t have Popsicle sticks, toothpicks can also be used. Then, once all the bananas are on sticks, one at a time, coat the banana with the melted chocolate. You can put as much or as little chocolate onto the banana as you desire.

4) If desired, you can sprinkle the chocolate covered banana pieces with any additional topping that you may want such as sprinkles or nuts.

5) Place the coated banana pieces onto a silicone baking mat or a pan/plate lined with waxed paper. Place into the refrigerator for 15 minutes or until the chocolate has hardened.

6) Enjoy!

NOTE: If desired, you can substitute other fruits such as strawberries, pineapple, or grapes rather than bananas. Or if you are like me and they all sound good, then you could treat yourself to a nice variety by making all of the different fruits.

*You could also place the chocolate covered fruit into the freezer afterwards for at least 1 hour to make it into a healthy frozen dessert.
